Bruxism Treatment

Bruxism Treatment Evanston, IL

We can stop your teeth grinding and clenching!

Bruxism, the clenching or grinding of teeth, is a natural habit that can be triggered by many things including stress and trauma. Often you aren’t even aware that you are bruxing as the majority of the time it occurs at night. Once a bruxing habit has begun, it is very hard to break.

Some of the common symptoms that you may experience include:

  • Earache
  • Headaches
  • Migraines
  • Loose teeth
  • Sensitive teeth
  • Tinnitus
  • Gum recession
  • Neck pain
  • Insomnia
  • Sore or painful jaw

Depending on the severity of bruxing, some or all of these symptoms may be evident. Even in the mildest of bruxers, a wear pattern on your teeth will be evident to our Evanston dentists. To provide for the best protection of your teeth, Dr. James and Dr. Robert recommend the use of a night guard or NTI device to alleviate bruxing while sleeping.

At our Evanston dental office, both doctors highly recommend a night guard if you find that your anterior (or front) teeth are consistently in need of small repairs from being chipped. Often this is a result of bruxing. After any chips have been repaired, a night guard is an excellent way to protect your investment and ensure that your bondings last.

In some cases an NTI can work to break the bruxing habit. The NTI device holds your teeth in a specific position while you sleep to deter grinding.

We work with our lab to create custom Nightguard devices. Our certified dental assistants use high quality impression material to ensure a perfect fit. Our doctors create your NTI while you wait using the best materials available. We work hard to ensure the dental labs that we collaborate with use the best materials to provide you with the most comfortable and durable bruxism devices possible.
