Veneers are porcelain restorations that adhere to the front of your teeth. They are generally considered a Cosmetic procedure, but in cases of enamel erosion or trauma; veneers can be placed as a restorative measure.
Veneers are placed on your anterior (front) teeth, it is very important to match the color of your veneers to your remaining teeth. Often our dentists will recommend more than one veneer – 6 or 8 being the most common – so as to minimize the cosmetic impact.
Veneers are different than crowns in several ways. When a crown is needed, diseased or fractured tooth enamel is removed leaving an abutment of your tooth structure for the crown to sit on. Veneers: minimum to no tooth enamel may need to be removed to place the veneer.
At our Evanston dental office, we create veneers using our CEREC® milling machine. Our dentists will take a digital impression of your teeth using the CAD/CAM scanner. Then they will design your veneer and send it to be milled. All of our CEREC® veneers are milled from a single block of eMax to provide the strongest restorations available.
